My work begins with close observation: hummingbirds at a feeder, insects on fruit, weather moving across the desert, the shape of an egg, a nest, a silver cup, drought, rain. I am interested in the small living things we often overlook and the ways attention can become a form of care.
Poetry, natural history, illuminated manuscripts, and scientific ideas also influence my work. I often think about painting as a way of slowing down long enough to notice the world again.
